BELTERRA: DO PROJETO DE PLANTIO DE SERINGA À CIDADE

Atendendo a solicitação do leitor Alfredo, estou postando um resumo da história de Belterra.
A data de 04 de maio de 1934, foi primordial na história de Belterra. Momento em que chegou por estas bandas a Companhia Ford, do magnata norte-americano Henry Ford (foto) a qual enfrentou diversos problemas, entre eles o clima, impossibilitando o avanço tecnológico. Época dos barões e baronesas, diferenciando-se por residir em vilas diferentes, de acordo com a renda de cada morador. Nos meados de 1945 o Projeto inicial de plantações de seringas fracassou, e o governo brasileiro, para manter a área já plantada, iniciou a exploração do seringal, tornando-se o maior produtor de látex da região.
O município de Belterra foi criado através da Lei nº 5.928 de 28 de dezembro de 1995, sancionada pelo então governador Dr. Almir José de Oliveira Gabriel, tendo sido desmembrado do município de Santarém, com sede na localidade de Belterra, que passou à categoria de cidade, com a mesma denominação. Sua instalação aconteceu em 1º de janeiro de 1997, com a posse do primeiro prefeito, do vice-prefeito e vereadores eleitos no pleito municipal de 3 de outubro de 1996.
