Na crise, é melhor ouvir o Fórum Social Mundial

Esta é a nona edição do Fórum Social Mundial. Foram quatro edições em Porto Alegre (2001, 2002, 2003 e 2005), uma em Mumbai na Índia (2004), uma em Caracas, Venezuela (2006) mas com atividades descentralizadas por todo o planeta até chegarmos a 2007 quando se enfrentou o desafio da África e foi realizado em Nairóbi, no Quênia. 2008 o Fórum Social Mundial não teve edição centralizada, foi a experiência de uma semana de mobilizações por todos cantos do planeta, mostrando o vigor das articulações da sociedade civil e dos movimentos sociais.
Amazônia
Desde 2006 nas discussões do Conselho Internacional já se debatia a importância de se trazer o Fórum Social Mundial para a Amazônia. Quem esteve na Índia descobriu o que é um choque de realidade. A organização social por castas, o desrespeito aos direitos humanos, a tragédia do acidente tóxico de Bophal com suas vítimas andando mutiladas pelas ruas, a dificuldade de levar adiante o discurso da transformação social no confronto de idéias com as religiões e formas de olhar a passagem pela vida completamente diferentes de nosso olhar “ocidental e cristão”. A vida e a reencarnação como motores de uma possível melhoria de qualidade de vida enquanto a gente já questionava isso com o Gil cantando Procissão em 1964. Sabíamos que, para realmente compreender os problemas e pensar nas soluções para a uma Amazônia sustentável, produtiva, socialmente justa e preservada só levando milhares de ativistas e os movimentos sociais para a região. E aí chegou-se à articulação, por vários caminhos, que consolidou o FSM em Belém.
Belém é a porta de entrada da Amazônia. Uma bela cidade repleta de Mangueiras (e até samaumeiras em pleno centro) a beira do Rio Guamá. Belém é uma cidade de tradição e de bela arquitetura, vigorosa em atividades culturais e generosa na culinária de variados pescados, a maniçoba e o pato no tucupi para citar alguns exemplos. Mas, ao mesmo tempo, vive uma importante crise de segurança pública. Desigual como a maioria das capitais brasileiras é uma cidade de casas muradas ou gradeadas. Em Canudos ou na Terra Firme, periferia da cidade, o comércio é feito através de grades, o consumidor não pode entrar na mercearia ou no mercantil como chamamos aqui no Pará. O tema da violência está em todas as partes e a presença da polícias e da Força Nacional é ostensiva causando certo mal estar pela exposição das armas que contrastam com a força da natureza e das chuvas que encantam os visitantes.
Mas o Fórum Social Mundial em Belém agora é uma realidade. A cidade recebeu de braços abertos os participantes e os espaços das atividades, a Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) e a Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (UFRA) tem excelentes estruturas e serviços para atender as centenas de atividades autogestionadas. São cerca de 120 mil inscritos pela internet, de mais de 150 países e 3.500 veículos de imprensa cobrindo o evento. As condições de trabalho da imprensa são muito boas. Os debates recem iniciaram e a sensação é que a crise econômica acaba por revitalizar a força criativa do Fórum Social Mundial. O modelo econômico tantas vezes denunciado como injusto, devastador dos recursos naturais, concentrador de riqueza e excludente, apresenta uma das suas mais impressionantes demostrações de fragilidade. Enquando apresentamos nossas idéias aqui acompanhamos os debates no centro nervoso da crise econômica, o Fórum Econômico Social. Em 2003 tentamos um debate através da internet e não estavam dadas condições políticas de negociação entre as diferentes visões. Agora, se eles pensarem bem para onde o modelo por eles imposto até hoje levou o planeta precisam concluir que, de verdade, um outro mundo é possível e necessário!
