“Vamos valorizar a sabedoria histórica dos povos da Amazônia, aliá-la ao conhecimento técnico do presente e, juntos, construir a ciência do futuro para o desenvolvimento pacífico, harmônico e alegre dos seres humanos uns com os outros e com o planeta” — Eugenio Scannavino.
Estabelecer no coração da Amazônia, dentro de uma das maiores reservas extrativistas do país, um pólo de referência para o desenvolvimento de projetos de tecnologias socioambientais replicáveis para toda a floresta. Com esse sonho, o Projeto Saúde e Alegria em parceria com a Tapajoara (organização concessionária que reúne lideranças de todas as associações das 74 comunidades da reserva) e o Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiveridade — ICMBio inaugura o Centro Experimental Floresta Ativa (CEFA), a principal estratégia do programa Floresta Ativa.
Há quatro anos o PSA me convidou para trabalhar aqui na reserva e ajudar no desenvolvimento de um modelo de produção que mantenha a floresta em pé. Ao contrário do sistema industrial que é baseado na obsolescência programada, ou seja, no produção de ‘coisas’ que são feitas para não durar, nós estamos trabalhando com elementos que tenham permanência, na lógica da permacultura, da sustentabilidade. No CEFA, vamos juntos criar maneiras de produzir alimentos e gerar renda, num processo de co-evolução com a floresta. — João Rockett / IPEP
As instalações foram construídas usando técnicas de bioconstrução. Além de causar o menor impacto ambiental possível, todo o complexo foi concebido valorizando o conhecimento e savoir-vivre dos povos da floresta aqui há milhares de anos.

A partir de um modelo sustentável de desenvolvimento da região, as construções tiveram como foco eficiência energética, tratamento adequado de resíduos, aproveitamento da luz do dia, da ventilação natural e reaproveitamento da água da chuva.
Na capacitação sobre reaproveitamento de água da chuva foi construída uma cisterna no centro como aula prática aos participantes e servir de modelo para ser replicado na reserva.
Sem depender de diesel, toda a eletricidade do complexo hoje é gerada com o uso de painéis fotovoltaicos que convertem a luz do sol em energia elétrica. O bombeamento de água do poço é mantido com energia solar também.
Para este ano, com o crescimento das atividades no pólo, já está prevista a criação de um parque eólico com hélices aerogeradoras para aproveitar o forte vento do local, além da recuperação de uma minihidrelétrica abandonada.
As águas cinzas da cozinha, dos chuveiros, dos tanques e das pias são direcionadas para círculos de bananeiras onde o saneamento ecológicoacontece dentro de um sistema vivo.
Para as águas negras dos resíduos sanitários, um outro tanque impermeabilizado preenchido com diferentes camadas de substrato foi adotado. Todo o efluente sanitário é direcionada para o sistema. Lá, ele passa por processos naturais de tratamento, com a degradação da matéria orgânica e a absorção e evapotranspiração da água pelas plantas.
A autonomia do espaço é a chave dentro de todo o centro, para que o local não dependa de recursos de fora para manter suas próprias necessidades e nem para lidar com seus resíduos.
Instalações vivas
Além das construções básicas e receptivas inauguradas esse mês, que contam também com redários e alojamentos com capacidade para receber mais de 200 pessoas, desde o início estão em andamento treinamentos e oficinas para todos das comunidades. As instalações demonstrativas possibilitam a vivência prática dos cursos:
✔ viveiro central;
✔ sistemas de hortaliças orgânicas;
✔ criação de abelhas;
✔ bosque agroflorestal com diversas espécies nativas frutíferas;
✔ piscicultura.
“É um espaço de troca e construção de conhecimentos, um polo difusor de boas práticas, não só entre comunidades, mas também um centro que ajude a traduzir a Amazônia e a realidade dos seus povos para outras regiões, com oficinas que estão sendo pensadas para visitantes externos tendo os comunitários como mestres” — Caetano Scannavino, Projeto Saúde e Alegria
Para esse ano, a meta é produzir 300 mil mudas de espécies nativas da Amazônia. No viveiro, já vemos mudas de caju, açaí, pupunha, cacau, madeiras nobres, entre outras.
A construção de um novo modelo de assistência está aqui e já está gerando frutos. Estar juntos nessa parceria é fundamental. — Ladilson Amaral, Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Rurais de Santarém.
A horta orgânica já produz uma série de hortaliças para consumo local, entre eles couve, cenoura, tomate, quiabo, abóbora, pepino, cheiro verde, hortelã, manjericão. Entre um canteiro e outro, trepadeiras como maracujá já começam a dar frutos.
“Isso aqui é nosso! Durante esse período de construção do CEFA, já tivemos muitas oportunidades, foram muitas oficinas, muitas reuniões. É um privilégio ter uma estrutura dessa e muitas coisas que a gente não tinha antes. Vamos ver muita coisa boa ainda!” — Joelma Lopes, representante da comunidade de Carão
Durante a oficina para produção de mel com abelhas amazônicas, na parte prática, participantes construíram e instalaram caixas de abelha que ficam no centro e podem ser replicadas nas comunidades.

O CEFA tem como missão fortalecer as comunidades da reserva com o intercâmbio de conhecimentos, experimentações, melhoria das práticas produtivas e projetos de geração de renda das comunidades. A USP, Unicamp e universidades do Pará já desenvolvem trabalhos de pesquisa na reserva.
Hoje, já são mais de 200 estudantes, indígenas e não-indígenas, que deixam a reserva para estudar na Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará/UFOPA na cidade de Santarém. A proposta de estabelecer um pólo universitário nas instalações do CEFA é amenizar o êxodo da juventude e fortalecer as comunidades.
Também presente no evento, a reitora da UFOPA, Raimunda Monteiro, sinalizou o interesse da universidade do fortalecimento da cooperação com a criação do CEFA:
“As turmas da engenharia florestal já estiveram aqui e abriram para nós a possibilidade de pensar na cooperação entre a universidade e as organizações. Nós hoje podemos afirmar que o CEFA será discutido de uma forma mais orgânica dentro da UFOPA como um espaço para o ensino, a pesquisa e a extensão. — Raimunda Monteiro, reitora da UFOPA
A reitora também citou as ações afirmativas da universidade para aperfeiçoar a inclusão e permanência indígena, quilombola e das populações tradicionais na universidade.
Perspectivas em médio e longo prazo

Ao promover alternativas produtivas e de geração de renda para os 23 mil moradores da reserva, o centro tem como meta nos próximos anos:
✔ Aumentar produção agroflorestal da reserva, com áreas recuperadas e roçados permanentes (evitando abertura de mais áreas de floresta);
✔ Melhorar oferta de alimentos, de renda familiar e qualidade de vida dos moradores da reserva;
✔ Alavancar cadeias produtivas com escala e empreendimentos sustentáveis.
Reserva Extrativista Tapajós-Arapiuns
Se hoje a Amazônia conta com 75 reservas extrativistas, o que representa menos de 3% da floresta, essa conquista dos povos da floresta pela democracia é ainda recente.
A luta para a criação dessa reserva durou muitos anos, remando contra interesses de empresários locais, madeireiros e até dos poderes municipais e estaduais.
Reserva Extrativista Tapajós-Arapiuns
Com interesse ecológico e social, a Reserva Extrativista Tapajós-Arapiuns foi decretada como Unidade de Conservação na Amazônia no fim de 1998. Seu objetivo é "garantir a exploração auto-sustentável e a conservação dos recursos naturais renováveis tradicionalmente utilizados" pelos 23 mil moradores distribuídos em 74 comunidades agroextrativistas originadas em aldeias indígenas e antigas vilas de missões religiosas.
