Padre Sidney Canto concluiu “Crônicas e Contos do Tapajós”

Padre Sidney Augusto Canto, da Diocese de Santarém, concluiu seu mais novo livro: Crônicas e Contos do Tapajós.
Durante pouco mais de cinco anos que o mesmo viveu e trabalhou pelo baixo Tapajós, ele acabou escutando ou fazendo parte de diversas histórias. Algumas delas verídicas, outras nem tanto… Depois destes anos trabalhando nas comunidades do interior do nosso rio Tapajós, ele foi incentivado a contar nesta obra algumas dessas histórias, escrevendo sobre a cultura e os costumes do povo das comunidades ribeirinhas.
Segundo diz o Padre: “O objetivo deste: “Contos e Crônicas do Tapajós” é justamente esse, não deixar tais histórias caírem no esquecimento. Nossa riqueza cultural ainda é pouco explorada e espero estar contribuindo para que cada vez mais possamos preservar a memória cultural do nosso povo ribeirinho, da região do rio Tapajós. Muitas pessoas estão interessadas em proteger a Amazônia. Muito louvável essa idéia. Mas proteger a Amazônia não é somente manter uma floresta em pé, nem tampouco evitar a extinção de uma espécie da flora ou da fauna, ou mesmo a poluição de um rio ou igarapé. Isso também deve ser feito, mas não somente essas ações. Proteger a Amazônia é também proteger a cultura do povo que nasceu graças a toda a nossa biodiversidade. Proteger o homem e a mulher que foram criados que nasceu nessa floresta e nesses rios. Proteger seus costumes, festas e tradições. Nesses anos de trabalho, constatei que o ribeirinho tem a ciência e o conhecimento necessário para proteger a floresta e dela extrair seu sustento.
Ele sabe, quase que geneticamente (pois isto é transmitido de pais para filhos a gerações), que se a floresta deixar de existir ele também deixará de ser quem, culturalmente e existencialmente, ele é. O fato de estas histórias estarem sendo contadas, já é um passo, mas não a meta a ser alcançada. Nossos antepassados viviam em paz e em harmonia com a natureza. Talvez seja a hora de tentar algo novo, dizem alguns, mas lembro que o passado ensina muito. Sempre ressoando o que nos diz o já agora ditado popular: proteger a Amazônia é também proteger o Amazônida!”
Um capítulo interessante do livro originalmente foi feito para a Revista Programa da Festa de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Fala dos índios que habitaram “no Tapajós” do século XVI até final do século XIX. Como o artigo ficou um pouco maior do que deveria, fugindo do que a linha do Programa da Festa se propõe o autor decidiu inseri-lo dentro do contexto das “crônicas”. Além da pesquisa em documentos que citam o contato dos colonizadores com os índios, o autor ressalta alguns dos costumes e particularidades que faziam parte do dia a dia dos nossos antepassados tapajoaras, bem como a história da colonização do Rio Tapajós, do século XVI ao século XIX.
O livro está na fase de editoração e depois vai ser impresso em São Paulo. Deve estar à venda em Santarém antes do final deste ano.
