AfroReggae visita Saúde e Alegria em produção do Programa Conexões Urbanas

Desde ontem, 19 de junho, está em Santarém uma equipe de produção do Programa Conexões Urbanas, produzido pelo Grupo Cultural AfroReggae, do Rio de Janeiro.
O fundador da organização, José Junior, é o próprio apresentador do programa que é veiculado no Canal Multishow. As gravações na região envolvem o trabalho do Projeto Saúde e Alegria. Ontem a equipe gravou na comunidade de Urucureá, no rio Arapiuns, onde Junior conheceu a experiência de produção de artesanatos em palha de tucumã, como forma geração de renda e manejo sustentável da floresta. 
Hoje, após entrevista na orla de Santarém com o coordenador do PSA, Caetano Scannavino, e encontro com a prefeita Maria do Carmo, a equipe partiu para a cidade de Belterra, onde faz gravações sobre o programa de inclusão digital desenvolvido com o telecentro comunitário. Amanhã a equipe visita o Barco Hospital Abaré, que está prestando atendimento as comunidades da Floresta Nacional do Tapajós.
O Grupo Cultural AfroReggae foi fundado em 1993 para transformar a realidade de jovens moradores de favelas utilizando a educação, a arte e a cultura como instrumentos de inserção social. O embrião do projeto foi o jornal AfroReggae Notícias, cuja primeira edição circulou em agosto de 1992. O informativo – distribuído gratuitamente e sem anunciantes – logo se tornou um canal aberto para o debate de ideias e de problemas que afetam a vida de negros e pobres. Em 29 de agosto daquele mesmo ano ocorreu a Chacina de Vigário Geral, na qual 21 moradores inocentes foram assassinados. Um mês depois, os produtores do AfroReggae Notícias chegaram à favela de Vigário Geral oferecendo oficinas de percussão, capoeira, reciclagem de lixo e dança afro para os moradores dali.
Desde então, o Grupo Cultural AfroReggae investe no potencial de jovens favelados, levando educação, cultura e arte a territórios marcados pela violência policial e pelo narcotráfico. Ao longo de seus 17 anos (que serão completados no dia 21 de janeiro de 2010), o AfroReggae vem utilizando atividades artísticas, como percussão, circo, grafite, teatro e dança para tentar diminuir os abismos que separam negros e brancos, ricos e pobres, a favela e o asfalto, a fim de criar pontes de união entre os diferentes segmentos da sociedade.
O Programa Conexões Urbanas é uma das atividades do Grupo, que apresenta projetos sociais e lideranças que contribuem para a transformação social em vários cantos do Brasil.
