Nos dias 15 e 16 de novembro de 2008 se realizou o Fórum Social do Oeste do Pará (FSOPa) em Santarém. A Commisão Organizadora deste evento, que reuniu 268 lideranças e representantes das entidades do Oeste do Pará, decidiu de se comprometer em lutas contra a devastação da nossa região, além de denunciar os maiores projetos predatórios que estão ameaçando a nossa existência. Juntando isso, a Comissão escreveu uma Carta Aberta com os participantes do FSOPa.

CARTA ABERTA DO FÓRUM SOCIAL DO OESTE DO PARÁ
Nos dias 15 e 16 de novembro de 2008, na cidade de Santarém, no auditório do Colégio São Raimundo Nonato, aconteceu o Fórum Social do Oeste do Pará, com a presença de 268 (nos dois dias) participantes de movimentos sociais de 14 municípios da região que são Oriximiná, Itaituba, Terra Santa, Juruti, Monte Alegre, Almerim, Alenquer, Curuá, Obidos, Belterra, Santarém, Aveiro, Faro, Prainha. Após dois dias de debates e aprofundamentos, queremos nos comprometer em lutar por questões que agravam a vida da cultura de nossos povos e do meio ambiente, ao mesmo tempo em que denunciamos os projetos mais predatórios à região, exigindo das autoridades federais, estaduais e municipais, soluções definitivas e imediatas para os seguintes crimes ambientais que estão acontecendo em nossa região:
- As questões fundiária e agrária – estão destruindo a agricultura familiar, causando conflitos sociais e depredando gravemente as florestas e os recursos hídricos. O agronegócio em nossa região oeste do Pará é altamente nocivo, não melhora a qualidade de vida das populações locais. Por isso, exigimos que os governos considerem antes o respeito aos ecossistemas da Amazônia e às culturas de seus povos, proibindo o aumento de plantios de grãos em escala e monoculturas na nossa região.
- Exploração mineral – da forma como as empresas mineradoras estão agindo na região, saem as riquezas e os nossos povos estão ficando com a destruição da terra, dos recursos hídricos, das culturas, provocando o inchaço das cidades e aumentando a violência. O enclave da mineração Rio do Norte em Trombetas, com o atraso na cidade de Oriximiná e o caos já instalado na cidade de Juruti com a presença da multinacional ALCOA, são dois exemplos do que está e vai acontecer mais e mais com elas e outras mineradoras na região.
- O plano governamental de construção de hidroelétricas no oeste do Pará, como em toda a Amazônia, é altamente predatório ao nosso povo, causando também prejuízos à biodiversidade, sem que nossos povos tenham benefícios duráveis. O êxodo das comunidades atingidas é um grave crime contra os direitos humanos. Além disso, as hidroelétricas não servirão ao povo amazônico, que já tem a segunda maior hidroelétrica do país, Tucuruí, só não servindo a todas as comunidades por falta de investimentos na transmissão. Já sabemos que as hidroelétricas são prioridade do PAC, para atender o crescimento econômico, à custa de depredação da Amazônia e seus povos.
- Os órgãos de fiscalização ambiental estão sucateados e muitos estão favorecendo os grileiros, mineradores e madeireiros, promovendo o acúmulo de capital para poucos com a deteriorização da qualidade de vida das populações e da região.
- As políticas públicas para os povos indígenas na Amazônia estão provocando um novo genocídio. Exigimos que os tratados internacionais de proteção aos povos originários, assinados pelo Brasil, sejam integralmente respeitados.
- Por fim, denunciamos o incentivo da desordem urbana, quando chegam os grandes projetos à região, sem que previamente os poderes públicos municipais, estaduais e federal que acolhem esses grandes projetos, se preocupem em aparelhar as cidades com infra estrutura urbana digna, causando os inchaços nas periferias. Todos os núcleos urbanos da região estão um caos comum. Além disso, as poucas políticas urbanas implementadas são pensadas e projetadas a partir da realidade das regiões sudeste e sul do país, desconsiderando as especificidades das cidades amazônicas, resultando em políticas ineficientes e excludentes. O PAC destina uma migalha para saneamento básico e o maior volume de recursos está destinado exatamente para os grandes projetos Isso não pode continuar.
Já estamos cansados de tantas promessas do poder público, sem que as políticas públicas melhorem a qualidade de vida de nossos povos, como as questões de saúde pública (malária, dengue, etc.) geração de renda familiar, urbanização e educação. Este Fórum ao denunciar esses crimes contra a Amazônia, exige respostas concretas de quem de dever.

First off I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do
