Lenda do Anhangá

Anhangá é o Deus protetor das matas. Ele é grande veado branco encontrado, com olhos vermelhos. Um caçador que ameaça algum animal, principalmente se for uma fêmea amamentando seu filhote, é perseguido por anhangá.
Dizem que a muito tempo, um índio insistiu em perseguir uma veada, mesmo vendo que ela estava com sua cria. No alto de uma montanha, anhangá, com seus olhos vermelhos e ar majestoso, observava a cena.
Com grande crueldade, o índio armou seu arco e fecha e desparou contra o filhotinho, ferindo o pobre animalzinho. Não satisfeito com tanta crueldade, agarrou o pobrezinho e escondeu-o atrás de uma árvore. Apavorado, o veadinho gritou pela sua mãe. Ao ouvir os gritos desesperados do filhote, a veada aflita correu na direção da árvore.
O índio, com sua arma preparada, disparou uma flechada no pobre bicho. Todo alegre aproximou-se do animal caído e para sua surpresa… viu a sua mãe caída no lugar do grande cervo.
Aos gritos o índio o percebeu que fora vítima de uma ilusão criada pelo grande veado branco. E saiu correndo pela floresta.
