29 de junho de 2018 por Ana CostaUm grupo de dezenove (19) estudantes da Universidade Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) na Austrália esteve visitando o Centro Experimental Floresta Ativa (CEFA).

O grupo coordenado pelas professoras Melissa Neave, australiana, e Mirela Gavidia, brasileira, veio para Amazônia vivenciar o dia-a-dia das famílias agroextrativistas, principalmente, comunidades tradicionais em desenvolvimento. A escolha de vir para o Oeste do Pará se deu por conta da cultura paraense e pela relação de proximidade com o Meio Ambiente.
No CEFA, eles puderam conhecer mais sobre as unidades demonstrativas, o funcionamento do Biodigestor, as unidade de energia fotovoltaica, a meliponicultura, a criação de galinhas caipiras. Visitaram também a Aldeia de Vista Alegre do Capixauã, onde puderam experienciar a passagem do Barco Hospital Abaré. Na comunidade Carão, estiveram na residência do Sr. Dilson, acompanhando a produção de farinha. Além dessas atividades, os estudantes australianos conheceram o Carimbó, as fogueiras tradicionais do mês junino e tomaram banho de igarapé. Para Mirela “é muito importante para os alunos conhecerem a realidade daqui, até para poder participar das iniciativas e trazer um pouco mais de justiça social e sustentabilidade.”
A Expedição MELBOURNE ficou na Amazônia por duas semanas e permaneceu no CEFA por três dias, acompanhados pelo técnico em agropecuária do Projeto Saúde e Alegria Alexandre Godinho.
