Devolvendo o sorriso às populações do rio Arapiuns

“Quando aparece uma oportunidade dessas, a gente agarra com toda força e vai em frente”. Foi esse o sentimento que a jovem Derlane Silva de Souza, de 17 anos, demonstrou quando saía de barco da sua comunidade chamada Novo Horizonte. A oportunidade a que ela se refere, é a Primeira Jornada Odontológica que estava começando na comunidade de Cachoeira do Aruã, a quase 12 horas de distância em viagem de barco da cidade de Santarém, PA.
Entre os dias 23 até o dia 29 deste mês, cerca de 750 moradores de 53 comunidades da região do Rio Arapiuns e Maró tiveram a oportunidade de receber um tratamento especial na área da saúde bucal, através de um trabalho feito em parceria pelo Projeto Saúde e Alegria, Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Santarém, Terre des Hommens Holanda e o International College of Dentists (Colégio Internacional de Dentistas) – ICD. O desafio era enfrentar a grande demanda por tratamento odontológico existente nessas comunidades, principalmente pela dieta baseada em carboidratos (peixe e farinha), alto consumo de açúcar, água sem tratamento com flúor e falta de escovação, além das dificuldades de acesso aos serviços de saúde, para a prevenção das cáries.
Como fazer isso em uma realidade de grandes distâncias, dificuldades de locomoção e exigência de infraestrutra móvel, que coloca as políticas públicas e ao terceiro setor muitos desafios para realizar o atendimento à população que necessita? Somando esforços e trabalhando em parceria. Foi assim que foi montada a jornada odontológica.
Solidariedade e responsabilidade social
O casal de cirurgiões dentistas, Adriana Mesquita e Márcio Junqueira, veio de São Paulo colaborar com a jornada. Eles e mais 18 profissionais aceitaram o convite do Colégio Internacional de Dentistas para servir à população ribeirinha. “A idéia de vir para a Amazônia sugiu a partir de um contato com o Dr. Fábio Tozzi, em uma conversa onde ele nos contou da carência de profissionais aqui na região. Nós começamos a desenvolver a proposta de um mutirão de atendimento e conseguimos mobilizar 20 colegas para este trabalho”, conta Péricles Correa de Freitas, um dos coordenadores do grupo.
Péricles nos contou ainda que todos os profissionais mobilizados fecharam seus consultórios em São Paulo nesse período e pagaram dos seus prórpios bolsos os custos da viagem até Santarém para engajar-se na caravana. Perguntados sobre o que estes profissionais ganham com esse ato de solidariedade, todos foram unânimes em afirmar que além da oportunidade de conhecer a região, a jornada é uma oportunidade de se sentir mais humano. “É uma experiência muito gratificante pra gente. O que nós podemos trazer em termos de conhecimentos e tecnologia, nós estamos levando em amor e carinho dessa populção que nos acolheu muito bem”, conta o regente do ICD no Brasil, Alex Yoshiharu Otani.

O Colégio Internacional de Dentistas foi fundado nos anos 80, sendo a organização de odontologia mais reconhecida no mundo, que tem por objetivo avançar a ciência de odontologia para a saúde e o bem-estar da população no nível internacional. Busca a integração dos dentistas no mundo, divulgando conhecimentos e fomentando o atendimento social, como no caso desta jornada no rio Arapiuns.
Otani, explica que “esse é um projeto piloto que veio aqui trazendo tecnologia de ponta para a região, fazendo tratamento de canal junto com uma restauração imediata, exodontia, limpeza, além de trazer para a população a prótese total (dentadura), que são áreas de muita carência na região”.
O Dr. Fábio Tozzi, coordenador do Programa de Saúde Comunitária do PSA, complementa que “o diferencial deste atendimento, é que na maioria das vezes, pelas carências, a extração dos dentes é o tratamento historicamente praticado, e neste caso, estamos trazendo também restaurações, tratamento de canal, enfim, recuperando o sentido da saúde oral para esta população”, explica Tozzi em meio ao corredor lotado de pacientes.
Trabalho em parceria
Abaré ancorado na comunidade de Cachoeira do Aruã
O esforço conjunto do PSA e da SEMSA de Santarém, permitiu que toda a infra-estrutura necessária fosse montada para a realização da jornada. A prefeitura mobilizou uma série de funcionários, ofereceu o Barco Netinho pra tazer e acompanhar os pacientes tratados. O PSA por sua vez, também trouxe sua equipe e a Unidade Móvel de Saúde o navio Abaré, onde foram montados 8 consultórios odontológicos. Um exemplo de parceria entre o poder público e o terceiro setor. “Um momento muito importante, pois o serviço de atendimento nós já temos, mas toda ajuda é bem vida para responder à demanda que é muito grande. O Município quer agradecer porque isso só vem a somar para o bem da população e a política pública de saúde”, afirmou a enfermeira Graça Almeida, assessora de rios da SEMSA Santarém.

Sorrisos com saúde e alegria
A jovem Derlane Silva de Sousa, da comunidade novo horizonte, que buscou o atendimento, viu seu desejo realizado. É o exemplo também da Sra. Rosa Apóstola de Lima, que recebeu uma prótese dentária. “Isso significou para mim uma coisa tão boa, pois agora estou com meus dentes, estou me sentindo muito bem. Se a equipe não viesse aqui estava muito difícil, porque ia custar muito caro para mim que sou pobre”, disse a comunitária com sorriso mais solto no rosto.
Seu Manoel foi um dos beneficiados.
O desafio da educação
Em meio aos muitos pacientes atendidos no Abaré estava Itamar Mota da Silva, 14 anos, sorridente e curioso com tudo que estava acontecendo e ancioso para também ser atendido. Mas Itamar foi praticamente uma surpresa em meio às demais crianças. Quando saiu do consultório, a dentista que lhe atendeu saiu dizendo: “você não tem nenhuma cárie, o que você veio fazer aqui?”, comemorava e questionava ao mesmo tempo. “Não podia perder a oportunidade, vim no Abaré só pra confirmar se meus dentes estavam bons. Eu escovo meus dentes várias vezes todos os dias”, respondeu Itamar.
O adolescente Itamar: exemplo de saúde oral
Casos como o dele são quase uma excessão, o que coloca o grande desafio da educação para que as crianças, desde cedo, aprendam a importância de escovar, tratar bem dos dentes. Por esse motivo, a caravana do Abaré levou também sua equipe de arte-educadores do Circo Mocorongo do Saúde e Alegria para realizar dinâmicas e apresentações educativas, juntamente com a distribuição de escovas e pasta dental.
Juntos, os dentistas da Jornada realizaram cerca de 1.850 procedimentos odontológicos e os palhaços do Saúde e Alegria, arrancaram risos aliviados ou fizeram brotar alegria e esperança no rosto de quem, pela falta de atenção, talvez escondia a vontade de sorrir.
