Uma iniciativa muito interessante com blogs, chamada Rede Mocoronga , está acontecendo nas margens dos rios Amazonas, Tapajós e Arapiuns, no seio da floresta amazônica. Mocorongo é o nome dado aos que nascem na cidade de Santarém, no Pará, cidade pólo da região. Jovens de comunidades ribeirinhas localizadas nos Municípios de Santarém e a vizinha Belterra uniram-se para expressarem-se, trocarem notícias e aprenderem sobre o mundo na internet.
O projeto é parte do trabalho que a ONG Saúde e Alegria tem feito na região desde 1987. O PSA, como a ONG é conhecida localmente, chamou a atenção do mundo quando colocou um time de médicos e palhaços a bordo de um barco para descer o rio prestando atendimento médico básico à comunidades isoladas. Desde o início, a metodologia deles combinou medicina e atividades circenses, pois acreditavam que associando saúde com alegria é possível alcançar melhores resultados. Quando os vemos tentando ensinar dúzias de crianças a escovar os dentes – o que não é um hábito local – você logo entende a lógica da coisa!

Hoje, tendo conquistado apoio internacional e adquirido um barco-hospital plenamente equipado, o chamado Abaré, o PSA trava parcerias com os Municípios para transportar seus médicos até as comunidades e também mobiliza médicos voluntários de todo o mundo para realizar intervenções mais sofisticadas, que não são facilmente realizadas na região, como operação de catarata.

Apesar do foco do PSA ser a saúde, eles logo perceberam que problemas de saúde têm soluções interdisciplinares que passam pela economia local, o meio ambiente, a educação, o acesso a informação e a organização política. Diversas iniciativas nessas áreas foram criadas e uma delas é para fortalecer os recursos de comunicação social das comunidades, tanto na forma como elas se comunicam entre elas como na forma como elas se comunicam com o mundo.
A Rede Mocoronga nasceu de um projeto de capacitação de jovens das comunidades para tornarem-se repórteres comunitários, ensinando-os a produzir programas de rádio, vídeos, jornais e blogs na internet. Cada comunidade tem sua unidade de mídia com equipamento básico, equipamento se som, mesa editorial, equipamento de vídeo e conexão com a internet, que eles gerenciam da sua forma (até agora, somente seis comunidades têm todo o equipamento, mas a meta é que trinta e uma o tenham). As escolas são parcerias importantes deste projeto. A base do projeto é situada em Santarém, na sede do PSA, de onde seus funcionários disseminam notícias da região. Os jovens recebem as informações e repassam-nas para suas comunidades, assim como postam sobre a sua realidade, seus desafios diários e atividades culturais para o mundo inteiro.

As seis comunidades que já tem seus blogs conectados na Rede Mocoronga são: Muratuba, Cachoeira do Aruã, Piquiatuba, Maguari, Belterra e Suruacá

Recentemente, a comunidade Suruacá relatou sobre como a comunidade se uniu para construir o seu centro comunitário. A força dos homens da comunidade foi muito valorizada, uma vez que os troncos de árvores tiveram de ser carregados manualmente:
Como na comunidade não tem transporte adequado para este trabalho árduo, a madeira é conduzida no ombro, na cabeça e de outras maneiras possíveis encontradas pelos próprios trabalhadores. A madeira fica com um percurso de 40 minutos do ramal de onde será conduzida com o auxilio de uma carroça-de-boi, diminuindo assim o sofrimento dos comunitários.
Adriane Gama, da sede do PSA, usou a rede para disseminar informações sobre os riscos das comemorações de carnaval para as crianças e jovens:
Estamos no mês de carnaval, de folia e alegria. Mas, em se tratando de crianças e adolescentes, devemos ter cuidados redobrados nessa época para que muitas delas não seja abusadas e aliciadas por pessoas que violam os direitos fundamentais infanto-juvenis. Para contribuir com a diversão e segurança das crianças e adolescentes nesse carnaval em Santarém – PA, o conselho tutelar e várias parcerias devem unir forças para o sucesso do trabalho.

A Rede Mocoronga também dissemina notícias internacionais para as comunidades. Por exemplo, no Fórum Social Mundial, que aconteceu no início do ano em Belém do Pará, alguns jovens participaram com os funcionários do PSA e juntos eles selecionaram para o blog da Rede artigos de canais de mídia que representassem suas percepções do evento. Como exemplo, eles publicaram um artigo indicativo da visão de que o Fórum Social Mundial foi conclusivo em diversos pontos, contradizendo o que a grande mídia disse sobre o evento.
A nona edição do Fórum Social Mundial (FSM) terminou neste domingo (01/02), em Belém, com a “Assembléia das Assembléias” adotando dezenas de resoluções e propostas que serão temas de um programa de mobilizações ao redor do mundo em 2009.
As 21 assembléias temáticas, assim, quebraram o que parecia ser um tabu do FSM, ou seja, adotar posições políticas comuns sob a pressão de milhares de grupos da sociedade civil, ansiosos por agarrar a oportunidade criada pela crise econômica global de uma mudança progressiva.
Com uma variedade de notícias das comunidades ribeirinhas produzidas por jovens da região, dicas dos funcionários do PSA e uma crescente participação em eventos mundiais, a Rede Mocoronga é um canal interessante para qualquer um no mundo saber mais sobre como vivem as comunidades ribeirinhas da Amazônia, seus desafios, preocupações e o que pensam sobre os problemas do mundo.
