A meliponicultura é a prática de se manejar o desenvolvimento da produção de mel de abelhas sem ferrão, e é sobre essa atividade que nos dias 26 a 28 de fevereiro será realizada uma formação na Comunidade de Vila do Amorim, localizada na Resex Tapajós-Arapiuns.
Alexandre Goudinho, técnico do ATER no Projeto Saúde e Alegria e facilitador da oficina, também é meliponicultor na comunidade onde mora, em Anã. Ele informa que existem 12 famílias que exercem a atividade com 800 colmeias num total, a produção por ano é aproximadamente, 500 a 600 litros de mel.
A criação de abelha sem ferrão não exige grandes investimentos, o baixo custo é um dos fatores que contribui para desenvolver a atividade, podendo ser realizada por mulheres, homens e jovens. A prática já é desenvolvida por muito comunitários dentro da Resex e, segundo Alexandre, a cada ano que passa muitos moradores estão se interessando cada vez mais.
As abelhas desempenham um papel fundamental como polinizadores, garantindo a sobrevivência de plantas nativas e cultivadas. Apesar da sua grande importância ecológica, muitas espécies de abelhas sem ferrão estão sendo dizimadas, seja pelo desmatamento e queimadas ou uso de agrotóxicos. A meliponicultura contribui com a preservação do meio ambiente, colabora com a geração de renda para quem exercer a atividade e oferta um produto natural e extrativista.
