Desenvolvida para mitigar a exclusão energética de lugares sem acesso à rede de eletricidade, uma ação inovadora está beneficiando 300 famílias, de treze comunidades do Rio Arapiuns, que receberam kits de Luz Portátil.
Cada kit é composto por um painel (solar) fotovoltaico flexível e resistente a impactos, um conjunto composto por bateria e controlador de intensidade de iluminação, e uma lâmpada de tecnologia LED com alto rendimento e potência.
Desde agosto de 2012 o projeto já beneficiou mais de 1500 pessoas que vivem, trabalham ou estudam nessas comunidades ribeirinhas. A experiência de utilização destes kits no Arapiuns serve como piloto para verificar a sua adaptação no contexto amazônico e permitir melhorias a partir da avaliação dos beneficiários, na perspectiva da produção e distribuição em larga escala.
O Luz Portátil Brasil é coordenado pelo Instituto EDP Energias do Brasil e executado em parceria com o Banco Inter-Americano de Desenvolvimento, The Portable Light Project, Instituto para o Desenvolvimento de Energias Alternativas e da Auto Sustentabilidade e o Projeto Saúde e Alegria.
