Jovens moradores da Comunidade de São Pedro, Rio Arapiuns, no município de Santarém (PA), fazem com câmeras de telefones celulares uma apresentação das belezas, da história e da vida cotidiana do seu lugar. O vídeo com algumas imagens filmadas do alto de uma torre de telefonia fixa de 60 metros é narrado parcialmente de lá. A distância, ao alto, faz com que o olhar dos jovens nos mostre a beleza e a generosidade da natureza no Rio Arapiuns.
São Pedro é uma comunidade grande para os padrões da nossa região, com cerca de 135 famílias. É uma comunidade que reúne Escola e Posto de Saúde que atende outras comunidades próximas. Lá também tem uma Rádio Comunitária que transmite as informações de interesse da localidade por alto falantes afixados em postes. Outro destaque é o Telecentro Comunitário. Apesar de ainda não estar conectado à Internet já nos mostra o quanto é útil para a comunidade. O vídeo, que foi inteiramente produzido, editado e finalizado pelos jovens, foi trabalhado com os equipamentos e pela turma que participa das atividades do Telecentro.
São Pedro foi destaque na imprensa nacional em outubro de 2010 quando, nas suas praias, movimentos sociais e comunitários, unidos no Movimento em Defesa da Vida e da Cultura do Rio Arapiuns, se reuniram para pressionar pela preservação da Floresta.

Muito interessante ver a vila de São Pedro, que fica no magnífico rio Arapiuns. Nasci em Santarém, mas minhas origens estão no Arapiuns e eu tenho muito orgulho disso.
Parabéns à rede Mocoronga e à juventude pela iniciativa.
Moro em Belém mas, brevemnte, irei fazer uma visita à essa região e ver, pela primeira vez, o lugar onde nasceram meus avós e pais.
